DEMONSTRATION

Teacher points to a chair saying: There is a chair. Teacher points to chairs saying: There are chairs. And she asks children to guess what these words mean.

Example: There is a ruler. There are rubbers.

PRACTICE

Nominate a pair of learners to come to board and give them above objects to place in a house. Learners say what there is in the house as they add images – possibly with help from rest of class

Each pair has pictures of classroom objects. The task is to practice there is/are. If they have one pen they will say: There is a pen.

PHYSICAL ACTION

Sing a song: Clap your hands, listen to the music, turn around, and jump up high.
