Warm-up activity

Teacher introduces with learning and lesson objectives. Students come to the whiteboard one by one and choose one card with a word. Their task is to draw (less able students) or to explain the meaning of the word, but do not name it (more able students). The class should guess the words. (W)

What do learners know about the countryside in Kazakhstan?

Where is it?

Are there any national parks?

Where are they?

What does the area look like?

What can you see there?

Do you often go into the countryside for recreation?

Do you like walking surrounded by nature?

How many protected areas for nature are there in Kazakhstan? (over a hundred)

To present new vocabulary

Draw Ss’ attention to the pictures and ask various Ss to

read out the geographical feature each one shows.

Play the recording. Ss listen and repeat chorally or

individually.

Elicit the L1 equivalents from Ss around the class.

To match places to continents

Present the continents and then explain the task. Go

through the list of places and elicit whether Ss know any

of them. Read out the example, and then elicit answers

form Ss around the class.

As an extension ask Ss to identify which of them are the

same as the features in the pictures.

Play the recording. Ss listen and check their answers.
