The aim of the lesson:

Slide 1 London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. It’s one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is more than 9 million people. London is situated on the river Thames. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. London is an ancient city. London is not only the capital of the most important English-speaking country. The City is the oldest part of London, its financial and business centre. There are many offices, companies and banks in this part of the capital. The heart of the City is the Stock Exchange. The Tower of London and St Paul’s Cathedral are situated in the City.

Slide 2 Big Ben is a part of The Houses of Parliament, also known as the Palace of Westminster. The building consists of The House of Commons, The House of Lords and Westminster Hall.On the other side of the River Thames you can see the London Eye, sometimes called the Millenium Wheel,the largest observationwheel in the world. It was opened on December 31, 1999.

Just next to the Palace of Westminster, this gothic churchis the traditional place of coronation and burialsite for English monarchs
