Draw a large oval shape on the board. Ask a pupil to come to the board. Name a part of the face and ask the pupil to draw it onto the shape on the board. Continue with as many pupils you think is necessary.

Explain the activity. Allow the pupils some time to look of the pictures and find the words in the puzzle. For stronger classes, pupils write the corresponding word next to the picture. Check the answers.

Craftwork

Before going into class

Photocopy the pet shop template from the Teacher’s Resource Pack CD-ROM, one per pupil. Also, have the coloured pencils and scissors ready or ask the pupils to bring their own from the previous lesson.

Tell the pupils that they are going to make their own clown masks. Hand out the photocopies. Go over the parts of the face in the template and elicit them from the pupils. Guide them through the cutting and colouring of the marks. Then ask them to cut out the eyes. They can decorate their masks any way they want. They can even give their clown a name!
