Good morning pupils! Who is on duty today? Who is absent?

Teacher divides pupils in 2 groups with cards: “ Yurts’, “ Homes”

Now we have great opportunities for travelling all around the world. English helps us communicate with native speakers, make new friends, learn more about the culture and traditions of different countries.

Please, say: What abilities is it important to have to make the travelling comfortable, pleasant and the main thing useful?

Students: It’s important to be able to communicate.

Teacher: What do you mean as you say: “to be able to communicate”?

S: We should understand English speech and speak English.

S: We should have a rich vocabulary and build words and sentences correctly;

S: We should have a good pronunciation;

T: Is it important to be able to tell or write about our travelling experience?

S: Yes, it is. / It’s very important.

T: What should we practise in to have all these abilities?

S: To have a good pronunciation we should do phonetic exercises;

S: To have a rich vocabulary we should learn new words and expressions;

S: To build words and sentences correctly we should have word formation and grammar practice;

S: To understand English speech and speak English we should have listening practice and conversation practice;

S: To be able to tell or write about our travelling experience we should have monologue and writing practice.

T: Let us work according to our plan! You have report cards. At the end of the lesson everyone should give a mark to yourself.

T: Let us remember what an idiom is!

S: An idiom uses language in a non-literal but metaphorical way. It is fixed and recognized by native speakers.

S: An English idiom in the middle of nowhere is close to Russian «у чёрта на куличках»;

S: An English idiom off the beaten track is close to Russian «непроторенная дорожка»

T: Who wants to do an individual task?

The task is: Describe the place where you spent your most unforgettable holiday; in your description use as many idioms as possible.

T: Now I want you to work in pairs and groups.

The first task for working in a pair is:
