The aim of the lesson: to acquaint pupils with new vocabulary on the topic “Flora and fauna”.

Educational objectives: to develop pupils’ memory, imagination, will- power, self confidence, responsibility when learning a target language.

Developing: to develop pupils’ skills and habits in learning the new language item.

Bringing up: to bring up pupils to take care of the nature.

Aids: books, pictures, cards, white- board, additional information.

Inter- subject connection: Biology, Geography

The expected result: pupils get more information about the Flora and Fauna of our planet in English.

I. Organization moment:

- Good morning, boys and girls! How are you today? Take your seats! Who is on duty today? What date is it today? What day is it today? Who is absent today? You may sit down.

Today we’ll speak about plants and animals. We’ll revise all the whole themes we passed. We’ll do the tasks connected with the plants and animals, in other words we’ll speak about flora and fauna.

Let’s divide into 2 groups. There are 10 cards with the illustrations of plants- 5 and animals-5. So they divide into two groups.

II. Checking up the home task.

Before starting our lesson let’s do the warming-up task. Here is the text about animals and you are to translate the words in the brackets into English.

Where do animals live?

Our planet is home for many animals. They live everywhere. (Кірпі), (қасқыр), (түлкі), (тиін) and (қоян) live in the forest. And (піл), (маймыл) and (жолбарыс) live in the jungle. (Бақа) lives in the lake. (Кесіртке) lives in the field. And (жарқанат) lives in the dark places.

Flora and Fauna of the British Isles

1) The warm and wet climate of Great Britain is very good for plants. That is why the country looks like a beautiful garden. Centuries ago there were a lot of forests on the British Isles but now you can find big forests only in a few parts of the country- the North of Scotland ant South- west of England. The most common trees in England are oaks, elms, and beeches while Scotland has a lot of pines, firs, and birches.

2) The fauna or animal life on the British Isles is like in the north- west of Europe. Many larger animals such as bear sand wolves don’t live on the British Isles anymore but there are a lot of smaller animals: foxes, rabbits, hares and hedgehogs. Deer live in the forests of Scotland and England too. There are also different kinds of fish, snakes, lizards, frogs, butterflies and dragonflies.

3) More than two hundred species of birds live on the British Isles and about two hundred kinds are visitors of the place. Many of them are songbirds, in spring the land rings with their singing. The most common are blackbirds and sparrows. A lot of water birds such…
