Direct Ss to the picture and the title. Ask Ss to discuss in groups how they think the grove came to be. Play the recording. Ss listen and follow the text in their books and find out.

Answers:

The grove came to be when the Khan decided to go to a festival and saw some girls dancing . they were so scared when they realized who he was that they turned into birch trees.
