Pre-teaching.

Activity 1

Learners stand in a circle to revise simple greetings. “Hello, I am ….”

Activity 2

Poster: “Pretty Colours”

Teacher put up the Pretty Colours! Poster on the board. Point to the colours, one at a time, and say them. The pupils repeat, chorally and or\ individually. Teacher asks the pupils to take out their coloured pencils. Name a colour, e.g. blue. Ask the pupils to raise their blue coloured pencil. Repeat with the rest of the colours.

Activity 3

Puppet show

Model (Dialogue with a puppet)

I use a Panda puppet to help me do this. I take puppet out of a special bag and say “Hello Panda!” and then introduce him to the class. Then I asks Panda “What colour is it?” while pointing to the flashcards with the red colour...

Activity 4

Colour song

I teach colours through a colours song. In this lesson, students will practice colours by learning a Train colour song. They will also learn the colours vocabulary:red, yellow, green, blue…The video can be repeated several times until students memorise the colours. After watching, repeat the video but sound off audio and the students tell me what they see. This is like memory game.

Activity 5

Magic box: Teacher asks a learner to come and take out coloured pencil and answer the question “What colour is this?” The learner answers.

Activity 6

Energizer: “Charlie-bear”.

Game: “Touch the colour..”

Another game I play is the touching game. Colour flashcards are placed on the blackboard. I shout out a colour say, for example red and a pupil has to run to the board and touch it.

Activity 7

Sing a song “Colour song”

Pupils pronounce basic words and expressions intelligibly.

Pupils sing a “Colour Song” to revise the colours.
