Warm up

4 pictures 2 words. Hidden phrase is OUR WORLD.

Teacher asks students to think about the pictures and to give their ideas. If they found out the hidden phrase, teacher asks them to think about what for them is “Our world” and makes a mind map with students. If the students have difficulties with associations of this phrase, teacher lets them to think about “their world”. Each student gives their answers. Teacher reminds them that Our world means their life and surrounding.

Teacher introduces the lesson objectives.

Vocabulary expansion

(P) Students will be given task to match the phrases of likes and dislikes to the categories. Teacher should focus students on meaning of the phrases. Students do the exercise on their own or in pairs before checking with a teacher. Teacher checks students understand that I can’t stand… and I can’tbear… mean the same as I really hate, and that I don’t mind… means ‘it’s not a problem for me’.

Teacher highlights the prepositions in the phrases interested in and keen on, and checks students understand that great, brilliant and wonderful all mean ‘very good’.

Teacher should point out that the phrases … really get(s) on mynerves and … drive(s) me crazy are informal.
