Pre-learning

Brainstorming: “Four pictures and one word”

Learners should guess the topic of the lesson by looking at the four pictures

(G) Learners brainstorm the ideas about the pictures on the slide. They try to find one common topic for all four pictures. (Ordering breakfast)

The main part of the lesson

Pre-listening

Students match the definitions with the words which are given as e-cards in ‘Quizlet’ by a teacher in order to recollect them. Learners listen & repeat the pronunciations of the words.

While-listening

Task1: Learners listen a dialogue between waiter and customer

Teacher plays the recording. Ss listen. Teacher refers Ss to the first and last sentences in the dialogue in order to elicit Ss’ guesses as to what the main idea of the dialogue is about.

(The dialogue is about someone who is ordering breakfast)

Post-listening

Task2: To learn synonymous phrases

Students read out the phrases.

Ss back to the dialogue and find out which of the underlined phrases are synonymous with each one from various Ss around the class.

Assessment criteria of task 2 &3:

Ss listen the dialogue and guess what the main idea of the dialogue is about

Ss find out which of the underlined phrases are synonymous with phrases in the text.

Teacher divides Ss into three groups by using 3 colourful stickers and presses them to the back of chairs which students sit on. Here teacher divides Ss by level of them without saying about it.
